The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee ordered an elimination bout in the Super Welterweight division between Kazakh Kanat Islam and American John Vera.
Islam is number one in the 154-pound ranking. His last fight was on September 29 this year, when he beat Brandon Cook by technical knockout to retain his WBA-Intercontinental belt. The fighter is undefeated, has 25 victories and 20 of them have been by knockout.
Vera, on the other hand, is the second ranked boxer of the category. In his last fight, held on September 29, 2017, he defeated Sunday Ajuwa in three rounds. He also holds an immaculate record, with 18 victories and 11 knockouts.
The resolution was sent to the parties on November 21, 2017, and they have 30 days to agree on the date of the fight. If there is no agreement, the fight will be called to a purse bid.

at the Saryarka Velodrome in Astana, Kazakhstan on Saturday, September 9th.
Kanat vs. Cook is 2017’s biggest boxing attraction in Kazakhstan selling over 12,000 seats at the
Saryarka Velodrome. However, due to the high-demand of this stellar boxing event, an additional 3,000
seats have been added. Kanat and Cook are 154-pound world-class fighters in their prime going head to
head at a critical time in their respective careers. Both are coming off from spectacular victories and
entering the battle for the 154-pound WBA Junior Middleweight title race.
Today, the Kazakhstani boxer, winner of the WBA belt Kanat Islam and his trainer Nelson Lopez have visited the first edition of the “Tansholpan” program in the new season. Kanat Islam said on September 9 that he is ready for the fight against Canadian boxer Brandon Cook. “All the preparatory work is at a high level. We are ready for the stone. I want to win and bring joy to my country, “the sportsman says. In addition, Nelson Lopez, the coach of the boxer, spoke about Kanat’s readiness for the upcoming match. “We have a good training.
